Instead, Venta uses a process called cold evaporation: air passes over slowly rotating discs submerged in water, particles stick to the wet surfaces, and clean humidified air is returned to the room. The discs are cleaned and the water is changed. That is the entire system.
Understanding Venta requires letting go of the HEPA-centric mental model. Cold evaporation technology genuinely cleans air of larger particles — dust, pollen, pet dander, hair, and spores — and it simultaneously adds moisture to dry indoor air. Genuine advantages of the AP735:
No filter replacements, ever. This is real. No HEPA cartridge, no activated carbon pack, no pre-filter. The only consumable is the LPH cleaning solution — $80–120 per year versus $100–200 per year for comparable-room HEPA purifiers. Over five years the savings on consumables are $100–400 depending on what you compare it against.
Simultaneous purification and humidification. A quality humidifier costs $100–200. Running a purifier and a humidifier separately costs more than running the AP735. If you need both, the combo unit saves money and counter space.
No ozone, no ions, no UV-C. Venta produces none of these. The AP735 is a purely mechanical process — water and discs. No concerns about ozone exposure, no ion clouds, no UV-C exposure debates.
Natural humidity regulation. Cold evaporation self-limits at approximately 50–55% relative humidity. You cannot accidentally over-humidify and cause mould growth, which is a real risk with poorly monitored ultrasonic humidifiers.
Genuine disadvantages:
